Falkirk Carers Eligibility Criteria 2018

Closed 15 Feb 2018

Opened 3 Jan 2018

Overview

In 2016 the Scottish Government passed the Carers (Scotland) Act 2016. The Act places a number of duties on Local Authorities and Health Boards including offering support to adults and young carers through the completion of Adult Carer Support Plans and Young Carer Statements. It also includes a duty to involve carers in Hospital Discharge Planning and the publication of Local Carers Strategies, with carers, setting out how they will provide services and support to carers in the future.

Local Authorities are required to publish Local Eligibility Criteria outlining the levels of support carers can expect.

Why are we consulting?

Falkirk Council and NHS Forth Valley have asked Falkirk Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) to lead on this work and a Steering Group has been established to take forward preparations for the implementation of the 2016 Act from April 2018. Staff from Falkirk Carers Centre are part of the Steering Group.

The first stage of this involves the Carer's Centre along with Falkirk Health and Social Care Partnership, Falkirk Council and NHS Forth Valley, working in partnership with local carers to co-design the Falkirk Carer’s Eligibility Criteria - using the national guidance and National Carer Organisations(NCO) Framework as the basis for this.

We are therefore asking both adult and young carers in Falkirk to help with the design by reading the national Guidance NCO Framework and telling us what you think.
